Shrove Tuesday – Pancake Supper
February 13 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm
“Shrove” comes from the verb “to shrive” (to confess and receive absolution), referring to the ancient practice of confessing sins and receiving absolution in order to keep a holy Lent. Other names for this day include Carnival, meaning “farewell to meat”, and Mardi Gras, meaning “Fat Tuesday.”
Pancake suppers are traditional as they were a way of using up milk, eggs, and fat since those were not allowed in the strict fasting of Lent. The ingredients were made into pancakes, a meal which came to symbolize preparation for the discipline of Lent.
On the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday (February 13) we gather to celebrate and share a meal of pancakes and sausage from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Ticket prices: Adults – $5; Children under 10 – $3.
